Committees
Join one of our three committees that help us manage our events throughout the year.
Community
Engagement
Committee members are responsible for brainstorming and organizing events focusing on social and political issues of relevance to the South Asian community at UChicago, from academic panels to community service opportunities. Past events included screenings of Gulabi Gang and Sairat, Dialing for Democracy (a phone banking event to get out the vote in the Chicagoland South Asian Community), a Reproductive Justice and Asian-American Women Teach-In (an informal discussion about women of color and reproductive rights), and a committee-led discussion about the new debates around Affirmative Action in the Asian-American community.
Membership
The goal of this committee is to create an enjoyable, cohesive environment for anyone on campus to appreciate and indulge in South Asian culture. As members, you will be responsible for planning new ways to bond and organize the SASA community and carrying out most of SASA's social and cultural activities throughout the year, except the spring show. These include trips to Devon Avenue, mentor-mentee mixers, general body meetings, and smaller, less organized events such as Chai Chats and movie screenings.
Show
The SASA Show takes place during the first week of the spring quarter and there’s much to do before then! Members of show committee will assist the two show directors with both creative and logistical planning for the show. In the fall, we will write scripts and connect with all the groups performing in the show. In the winter we’ll audition actors, film skits, and crack down on the nitty-gritty. We are looking for enthusiastic committee members! No prior experience necessary.
